The Indian Boxing Council (IBC) has agreed a landmark partnership with Sporty Solutionz, which aims to transform the sport's profile on the sub-continent.
The agency has signed a five-year deal that will see it invest Rs 100 crore (US$14.75 million) in boxing, funding equipment and creating new events to support Indian fighters and attract those from overseas. The two parties will collaborate on the launch of IBC Fight Nights from January, followed by the introduction of city-level Silver Glove and state-level Golden Glove ladder championships to give boxers a route to the elite.
According to a statement announcing the partnership, the aim is to make India 'the global hub of professional boxing over the next five years'.
Sporty Solutionz chief executive Ashsish Chadha said: "Our investment is based on a pure profit-driven business model, which assures guaranteed timely returns for all stake-holders. The sport is generating tremendous interest among broadcasters and sponsors. We just need to create Tysons and Holyfields."
